Causeway and Ballyheigue have drawn in the Garvey’s Supervalu County Senior Hurling Championship.
At Austin Stack Park it ended Causeway 1-18 Ballyheigue 0-21.
It was 3 points apiece after 5 minutes. Causeway led 5 points to 4 at the ten minute mark, and scored the next 3 to go ahead by double scores. When Causeway’s Paul McGrath scored his third point, the gap was 6 after 23 minutes; 11 points to 5. Colin Walsh put over for Ballyheigue to cut the lead to 5. At the break it was Causeway 0-12 Ballyheigue 6, Ballyheigue having played against the wind in that opening period.
Causeway goaled inside the first minute of the second period, Billy Lyons netting. That gave them breathing space, and it was 1-14 to 10 points ten minutes into the half. With ten minutes to go it was 1-16 to 0-13. Ballyheigue got the gap down to 1 at 1-17 to 19 points, with just 5 minutes remaining. A Colin Walsh free gave Ballyheigue the chance to draw level and he duly obliged. Philip Lucid then pointed Ballyheigue in front. However, a Paul McGrath free brought Causeway level at 1-18 to 0-21. Brandon Barrett had a chance in the last minute of added on time to win it for Causeway but his effort drifted just wide.
From 4 at the same venue, in Group 1 it’s Ballyduff against Lixnaw.
