Oisin Murphy’s fleeting visit back to Ireland on Friday yielded one success at the Curragh when Summer Island prevailed for Co Down trainer Natalia Lupini.
Five times Britain’s champion rider, Murphy is not seen on these shores so much and usually only on the biggest days.
The Killarney jockey was seen to great effect in the seven-furlong handicap, swooping late along the grandstand rail to pinch the race by half a length on the 11-4 favourite.
He was back to England for racing at York on Saturday where he rode a double. Murphy leads in the British jockeys’ title race at present with another Irish-born prodigy, Billy Loughnane, in second.
