
St.Kierans and Mid Kerry have registered wins in the Opening round of the County Senior Football Championship.
St.Kierans beat South Kerry 3-17 to 2-12 while Mid Kerry defeated North Kerry 2-14 to 1-16.
Kierans led at half time by 1-4 to 0-6, the goal coming from Donal Daly in the 10th minute. A Jack Joy goal gave Kierans a 2-7 to 0-8 advantage 4 minutes into the second period. When Alex Coffey goaled for South Kerry the lead was down to 2-8 to 1-8. Kierans responded with back to back points, and then a Killian Dennehy goal. That brought the gap up to 8 at 3-10 to 1-8. Straight away South Kerry goaled, through Kieran O’Sullivan. After 43 minutes Kierans led 3-10 to 2-9. Kierans gradually pulled away, going into an 8 point lead by the 54 minute mark at 3-15 to 2-10.
North Kerry were in front by 4 points to 1 after 8 minutes. 2 Mid Kerry goals in a minute turned the game on its head
and they were in front by 2-2 to 0-7 after 17 minutes. It was 2-4 to 0-8 at the break.
The sides were level at 2-5 to 11 points after 4 minutes of the second half. The tie remained nip and tuck, North Kerry leading 13 points to 2-6 after 40 minutes. A two pointer extended that advantage. An Eoin Clifford two pointer cut the gap to 1 at the 3/4 stage; Mid Kerry 2-8 North Kerry 0-15. Darragh Lynch’s goal made it 1-15 to 2-8. With 6 minutes remaining it was Mid Kerry 2-12 North Kerry 1-16. Mid Kerry drew level and then a Fergal Hallissey point gave them victory.
