Kai Havertz will return to Arsenal for treatment after suffering a “muscle sprain” during Germany’s draw with the Netherlands.
The forward limped off with a hamstring issue in the 30th minute of the Nations League clash in Amsterdam and underwent a scan following the match.
The German FA have now confirmed that Havertz will leave Jurgen Klopp’s squad early.
Havertz missed five months of last season with a knee injury but the 27-year-old has started all five of their Premier League matches this season ahead of Viktor Gyokeres.
Mikel Arteta’s side are not back in action until they host unbeaten Leeds United at the Emirates on Saturday 10 October in the first match back following the international break.
The German FA also said Jamal Musiala will leave Klopp’s first camp after he pulled out injured before the match with the Netherlands began due to a thigh issue.
A statement said: “Havertz, of Arsenal, suffered a muscle strain during Germany’s 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in their Uefa Nations League opener on Thursday and had to be substituted in the 30th minute.
“Musiala, of Bayern Munich, had already suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh during the warm-up before the match began. This was revealed by examinations late Thursday evening.”
Havertz was chosen to start by Klopp for the former Liverpool manager’s first outing in the Germany dugout.
After receiving treatment on his hamstring, which was heavily taped up, the forward was replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib on the half-hour mark.
It came minutes after Havertz was caught by a heavy challenge by Crystal Palace summer signing Quinten Timber on the knee, a foul the midfielder saw yellow for but could have realistically warranted a red.
