Sir Kevin Sinfield was cheered into St Helens by lines of well-wishers as he completed the penultimate day of his 7 in 7: The Grand Finale challenge.

Twenty-four hours after surpassing £1million raised for motor neurone disease charities, Sinfield was all smiles as he ran into Brewdog Stadium where he was warmly greeted by supporters in the stands.

“It’s been brilliant coming here,” said the Leeds great, who was wearing a St Helens vest. “I don’t feel like the enemy at all. In fact, I think these colours look very good on me!

“The great thing about visiting rugby league clubs is that you’re all very tribal and I got that when I was a player a long time ago.

“I know you’ll do battle against each other again next year, but there’s a war that needs fighting against MND and we’re going need you all to come together.

“The real benefit of doing something like this is pulling people together and having a stand like we’ve got in front of me where people want to be part of a community that does good things for people.”

This is Sinfield’s seventh and final ultra-running challenge to raise awareness and money for the MND community, with his route taking in the home grounds of all 12 English Betfred Super League clubs.

Having run every day for seven days, his route will conclude on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of Saturday’s Super League Grand Final between Warrington and Wakefield, with his son Jack in the squad for Trinity.

By the time Sinfield had arrived into St Helens after leaving Salford’s AIG Stadium at 8.40am, the figure raised in the challenge had climbed beyond £1,165,000.

Motor Neurone Disease Association, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, Leeds Hospitals Charity and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation are the charities that are benefiting from his fundraising.

Inspired by his former Leeds Rhinos team-mate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024 after living with MND for four-and-a-half years, Sinfield and his team have raised over £11m for the MND community since the event began in 2020.
