Cardiff defender Krystian Bielik has been banned for two matches and fined £10,000 following an altercation with a Portsmouth fan during his side’s 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park last month.
Poland centre-half Bielik was alleged to have grappled with a teenage boy as he went to retrieve the ball from the crowd in the 71st minute of the Championship match.
Video footage showed Bielik becoming involved in an altercation with a young male supporter, who caught the ball and then appeared to be pushed in the throat by the player after he had thrown it back towards the pitch.
Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy said Bielik was slapped in the face, while his opposite number John Mousinho apologised to the visiting team.
After being charged with misconduct last month, the FA has now said: “Krystian Bielik has been suspended for two matches and fined £10,000 for misconduct during Cardiff City’s EFL Championship match against Portsmouth on Saturday 5 September.
“It was alleged that the player acted in an improper manner around the 71st minute of the fixture.
“Krystian Bielik subsequently admitted the charge. An independent regulatory commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing and the written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course.”
Hampshire Police launched an investigation after the match but took no further action after concluding their enquiries.
A police statement read: “Following an incident involving a Portsmouth FC supporter and a Cardiff player at Fratton Park on 5 September 2026, we have now concluded our investigation.
“After speaking with the complainant and reviewing all available evidence, the matter has been resolved by way of an out-of-court disposal, agreed by all parties involved. As part of this resolution, an apology has been provided by the player.
“The matter is now considered closed, and no further action will be taken in relation to this incident.”
