In the main event of UFC 333 tonight, Alexander Volkanovski faces an intriguing test as he bids to solve the Movsar Evloev puzzle.
Having become a two-time featherweight champion last year, Volkanovski is aiming to keep his second title reign alive, but to do so, the ageing great must do what no fighter has done: beat the 20-0 Evloev.
The co-main event in Abu Dhabi also sees gold up for grabs, as Petr Yan fights Merab Dvalishvili for the third time.
In December, Yan produced a masterclass to take the bantamweight belt from Dvalishvili, avenging a 2023 loss to the “Machine”. Tonight’s clash should therefore settle their rivalry once and for all…
Follow live updates and results from UFC 333, below:
Former title challenger stars in final prelim bout
We close out the prelims with Azamat Murzakanov vs Dominick Reyes at light-heavyweight.
Reyes is a former two-time title challenger, who many believe should have been awarded a win against the great Jon Jones in their bout.
Reyes is now 16-5, while Murzakanov is 16-1.
Reyes has been on the right and wrong ends of a lot of KOs… and his fans may fear this fight, given Murzakanov has earned 12 of his 16 wins by KO.
Yakhyaev moves to 11-0
Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev def. Nikita Krylov via first-round TKO (knee, 2:38)
Yakhyaev scores brutal KO with heavy knee
Krylov kicks low then throws an overhand off the kick, before grabbing a clinch and forcing Yakhyaev to the fence.
A replay shows the overhand landed hard. Yakhyaev is bloodied around his nose. Krylov is still holding him against the cage wall.
Now there’s a trip from Yakhyaev, though, and he’s trying what looks like a ninja choke! Krylov survives for now…
OH!! Krylov gets onto his knees by the fence, then as he stands, he is smashed with a knee to the face!
Krylov slumps a bit and the fight is waved off after a few punches! Krylov protests at once! Maybe he wasn’t out!
Experience vs momentum
Yakhyaev, 25, is 10-0, while 34-year-old Krylov is 31-12…
Will Krylov’s experience win out? Can this be a hype check on Yakhyaev?
Or will the later continue his impressive, unbeaten run?
Let’s find out.
Preview: Volk is at a tipping point – can Evloev push him over the edge?
For all the focus on jabs, elbows, knees and throws, sometimes all it takes is a little push in MMA. Especially when you’re on the precipice.
That’s where Volkanovski finds himself, as much as in Abu Dhabi and at the Etihad Arena. People can talk down the physical threat of Evloev – and they have – based on the Russian’s relative lack of finishes, but Volkanovski stands on the edge of a sheer drop.
It is a long way down, even for the man who walks out to “Down Under”. And this is perhaps the greatest threat to the Australian’s second reign as UFC featherweight champion, at 38 years old.
Volkanovski has been one of the finest fighters of a generation, and is arguably the greatest featherweight of all time (even if the Jose Aldo debate may never end), but there exists a trend that even the sacred few atop the MMA mountain have been able to outfight or outthink…

205lb showdown imminently
We move up in weight yet again, as light-heavyweights Nikita Krylov and Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev square off next.
It’s Ukraine vs Turkey in this one.
Magomedov puts Rowston to sleep early on!
Both men stand orthodox. A few low kicks from Magomedov early on, and Rowston looks uncomfortable.
The Aussie shoots for a takedown, but he’s caught in a guillotine… they hit the mat… and he goes to sleep!!!
Rowston tried to clear the legs and get off to the side, but he couldn’t, with Magomedov keeping his arm locked tight across Rowston’s neck!
Abus Magomedov def. Cam Rowston via first-round submission (guillotine choke, 1:44)
Middleweight action next
We move up to 185lb now, where Abus Magomedov and Cam Rowston will square off.
