
The Garvey’s Supervalu County Senior Hurling Championship final will be between St Brendan’s and Abbeydorney.
At Tralee’s Austin Stack Park St Brendan’s have beaten Causeway 5-17 to 1-15 while Abbeydorney defeated Ballyduff 3-15 to 1-16.
In the first game Brendan’s led 3 points to 2 after 5 minutes. Causeway then hit 3 points in a row to open up a 5-3 lead after 14 minutes. Points from Eric Leen and Sean Brosnan brought Brendan’s level. With Causeway ahead by 8 points to 6, a 25th minute Billy Lyons goal gave Causeway breathing space. Back to back Brendan’s points had them within 3. Two minutes out from half time a Fionan Egan goal brought Brendan’s level. Muiris Delaney then pointed Causeway ahead by 1-9 to 1-8. They doubled the lead before Brendan’s cut the gap in half at 1-10 to 1-9. Causeway had 3 of the last 4 points of the half-through Billy Lyons, Dan Goggin and Keith Carmody-to lead at the break by 1-13 to 1-10.
St Brendan’s had a storming start to the second period. An Earnan Ferris goal in the opening minute brought them level. Fionan Egan then netted to put them 3 clear. When he goaled again from a penalty Brendan’s had opened up a 4-11 to 1-13 advantage after 6 minutes of the half. Brendan’s notched their 5th goal approaching the 3/4 mark, Gearoid Sheehan netting to make it 5-13 to 1-14. The gap at the end was 14.
Game two saw Abbeydorney goal after 8 minutes for their opening score, Adam Maunsell netting to put them 2 to the good. Abbeyforney were ahead 1-4 to 0-3 at the quarter hour mark. Abbeydorney had the next 4 points to go 8 clear at 1-8 to 0-3 after 22 minutes. Ballyduff trailed by 6, then Padraig Boyle goaled to make it 1-9 to 1-6. Closing in on half-time a Michael Slattery goal put O’Dorney ahead by 2-10 to 1-6. The last score of the period was another Abbeydorney goal, Niall O’Mahony scoring to make it 3-10 to 1-7 at the break.
After a low scoring third quarter Abbeydorney led 3-11 to 1-11. Ballyduff had the next 3 points to halve that deficit with 10 minutes remaining. A James O’Connor point put 4 between the sides. Ballyduff got it back to 3 once more but back to back points had Abbeydorney 5 clear entering the final minutes.
