Defeat for Ireland in France

The Republic of Ireland came up just short in their bid to qualify automatically for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Carla Ward’s side were beaten 1-0 by France – a spectacular goal from Manchester United’s Melvine Malard proved the difference in Grenoble.
