Friday racing tips
It’s that time of the week again and we’re looking forward to a fabulous Friday of racing with our racing tips coming from the cards at Carlisle and Chepstow.
Grey but positive outlook at Carlisle
A rare foray into Class 6 company for this selection. I tend not to get too involved in such races, given the moderate nature of the runners and the inconsistency that accompanies them but there looks like one worth risking to small stakes here in KODE GREY.
Tim Easterby’s three-year-old showed little as a juvenile and was not particularly fancied on his handicap debut at Ripon last time, when easy to back. He didn’t have the best of draws that day but went forward, leading for much of the way until eventually being beaten by just over two lengths into third.
With the lack of money for him, that effort can probably be marked up a little and his pedigree suggests that this stiffer 6f might be to his advantage. He’s unexposed and open to improvement, and a small stakes play on betting sites is advised. Any significant support for him would fuel confidence.
Racing tip 1: Kode Grey – 1pt win @ 5/1 (bet365)
Side with Alpine Sierra
We may not get much of a price on horse racing betting sites about ALPINE SIERRA but the eight-year-old arrives in cracking form and looks worth continuing to follow.
I’ve waxed lyrical about trainer Jim Goldie before and you know I’m a fan of how he campaigns his horses. Just look at this one’s recent form as another case in point.
Stepped up to 1m3f at Hamilton earlier in the month, he won easily and followed up in a similar Class 5 event over 1m4½f at Musselburgh last time, when unchallenged.
He’s got a 4lb penalty to shoulder and, before the handicapper takes control again, it looks prudent to side with him for another success here over this stiff 1m3f.
Racing tip 2: Alpine Sierra – 1pt win @ 5/6 (bet365)
Carlisle Kitty could go to Easterby runner
Treading carefully again in this grade but Mick and David Easterby finally managed to get a win out of GLORIOUS KITTY at Ayr last time and there are reasons to believe that she can successfully follow-up.
A four-year-old filly by Cotai Glory, she took 15 starts to break her duck, so let’s manage expectations here. However, her Ayr win saw her raced keenly, tanking along up front and being good enough to hold on over 1m (good to firm). Conditions are similar and this shorter trip can still play to her strengths, given how stiff an uphill climb this is for the final half mile or so.
She’s also unpenalised for her win because it came in an apprentice handicap and the same apprentice, Lewis Chalkley, is booked for this and claims a very handy 7lb off her back. If she’s ever going to follow up a win, she’ll not have many better chances to do so.
Racing tip 3: Glorious Kitty – 1pt win @ 7/2 (bet365)
Alfaraz can go off at Chepstow
This looks an interesting novices’ contest for the track, with El Nay, Blue Hercules and Echo Of Stars all possessing ability but preference is for ALFARAZ.
Andrew Balding’s three-year-old has been progressing with each start, finishing as the runner-up at both Goodwood (1m, good to firm) and Epsom (1m½f, good) last season and improving on that despite a sixth place finish on his reappearance in a Newbury novice event (1m2f, good) last month.
If anything, he was a bit too keen there and if that has got rid of the ‘fizz’ from him, then I think we can see a more mature performance this time. He is kept to 1m2f, which he should be suited by and it looks like there could be more pace on in this race, for him to take advantage of in terms of finding some cover.
Given his inexperience, on a day of small stakes, I’d suggest another small bet on him this time.
Racing tip 4: Alfaraz – 1pt win @ 4/5 (bet365)

Gamble responsibly
If you’re having a bet on Friday’s racing, it’s vital to practice responsible gambling.
Betting can be addictive, and it’s important to stay in control of your gambling, whether you’re using online bookmakers, casino sites, slot sites, bingo sites or any other gambling platform.
Never treat gambling as a way to make money, never bet more than you can afford and when the fun stops, stop.
Gambling sites offer punters tools, like deposit limits, profit and loss trackers and self-exclusion options, to help you stay in control.
But if you ever feel like you need help or advice on gambling addiction, don’t hesitate to contact one of the charities or organisations below.
