Kerry go second with win over Mayo

Kerry have gone 2nd in the Allianz Football League.

A 2-29 to 0-19 victory over Mayo in Tralee means a win in the closing round at Armagh will send them into the final.

A Dylan Geaney point put Kerry ahead but Mayo responded with a 2 pointer. Kerry’s Keith Evans hit a 5th minute leveler. After Mayo got the next point, Tom O’Sullivan made it all square after 9 minutes. Mayo went ahead by 7 points to 3. David Clifford made it 7-4 after quarter of an hour. It was 9 6 in the 20th minute. Points by Sean O’Shea, Sean O’Brien and
Dylan Geaney meant it was 9 all after 25 minutes. Keith Evans then put the Kingdom in front. David Clifford doubled that advantage. A Shane Murphy double save in the 29th minute kept the Kerry net intact. Kerry led by 13 points to 10 at half time.


Rob Hennelly and David Clifford swapped two pointers early in the second period, making it 0-15 to 0-12. A 40th minute Dylan Geaney goal doubled the Kerry advantage. A Sean O’Shea two pointer extended the lead further. After 46 minutes Kerry were ahead by 1-19 to 0-13. A David Clifford two pointer had the Kingdom in front by 1-21 to 0-14. Clifford then set-up Geaney for a Kerry goal; 2-21 to 0-4 after 53 minutes. Sean O’Shea then registered back to back two pointers, the second of those from off the ground after the ball rolled back to him just outside the arc. O’Shea hit another two pointer before the end, Kerry winning by 16.
