Trainer Oliver McKiernan and jockey Philip Enright have been quite a potent force this year and the pair joined forces for a 71-1 double at Kilbeggan on Thursday.
Both winners came in the colours of the Keep The Faith Bloodstock Syndicate and arrived in contrasting styles under the in-form rider from Tralee.
The hardy Chemdawg (5-1 favourite) led from start to finish in the mares’ handicap hurdle, just half a length up at the wire. She also won at the track on her most recent visit in April.
Warmer Days Ahead, backed in from bigger prices to 11-1, benefitted from a more patient steer in another 2m3f handicap hurdle an hour later.
Enright crept wide and from behind midfield to lead after the last hurdle and gain the day by a length and a half.
“Our second winner, he has bled before and we were just hoping for a clear round. He is sound as a pound now. I think he is a three-miler and maybe the ground being softer helped him also,” McKiernan said.
“I told Philip to keep him wide and out of trouble; it was a super ride as ever.”
