Netflix has secured exclusive broadcast rights in Spain for the 2030 World Cup, signing a deal on Tuesday that permits a free-to-air public broadcaster to show daily games, including those of the defending champions.
The streaming platform confirmed in a statement that it will stream all 104 matches live during the 48-team tournament, which Spain co-hosts with Portugal and Morocco following three opening games in South America.
The financial value of the deal was not disclosed. Spanish rights for the 104-game 2026 edition in North America were reportedly acquired by public broadcaster RTVE for 55 million euros ($61.6 million).
To mark the centenary edition, Fifa is celebrating the anniversary by giving original 1930 host Uruguay, along with Argentina and Paraguay, one match each. The main tournament subsequently leaves South America several days later to continue across southern Europe and north Africa.
This agreement marks Netflix’s initial major contract for a men’s World Cup, following a 2024 deal with Fifa for US rights to the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. Fifa is set next month to confirm a joint 2031 hosting by the US, Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica.
Fifa typically selects public broadcasters for World Cup rights to maximise audiences, and the Netflix agreement for Spain includes a free-to-air promise.
“As part of the agreement, one match per matchday will be available for free in Spain,” Netflix said in a statement. “A package of matches, including every Spain match, both semifinals and the final, will be made available for broadcast on a national free-to-air broadcaster.”
Spain and Morocco are competing to stage the final, a decision that has tied into political maneuvering across national governments and Fifa. Fifa’s embattled president Gianni Infantino maintains close connections to Moroccan soccer, but has denied making a deal for the African nation to host the final.
The final will take place either at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium or the 115,000-capacity King Hassan II Stadium being built near Casablanca.
Spain won their second World Cup back in July, beating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final, adding to the 2010 title they won in South Africa.
