Sir Kevin Sinfield was cheered into a sold-out Old Trafford as he delivered the Grand Final trophy prior to the season-ending showpiece between Warrington and Wakefield.

Sinfield arrived from St Helens on the final day of his 7 in 7: The Grand Finale challenge which has added well over £1million to his fundraising total for motor neurone disease charities.

The 46-year-old, a seven-time winner of the prestigious trophy as a player, said: “It’s great to be back. Thank you to everybody who’s played a part this week.

Sir Kevin Sinfield brings out the trophy ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford (PA) (PA Wire)

“The rugby league community has got right behind the MND community and Rob (Burrow) would be so proud to see how you’ve shown love and cared for a community that really needs us.”

It marks the culmination of Sinfield’s seventh and final ultra-running challenge to raise awareness and money for the MND community, with his route taking in the home grounds of all 12 English Betfred Super League clubs.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, Leeds Hospitals Charity and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation are the charities that have benefited from his fundraising.

Inspired by his former Leeds Rhinos team-mate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024 after living with MND for four-and-a-half years, Sinfield and his team have raised more than £11m for the MND community since the event began in 2020.

Sinfield was knighted in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for his services to rugby league, rugby union, and the motor neurone disease (MND) community.

By a remarkable twist of fate, Sinfield’s son, Jack Sinfield, lined up in the Wakefield side seeking to clinch their first top-flight title since 1968.
