Transfer news LIVE: Guimaraes nears Arsenal move, Vinicius agrees contract, Rodri makes decision

Why Arsenal Want Bruno Guimaraes So Badly

Bruno Guimaraes has received permission to travel to Arsenal and complete his £75m move from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical at the Premier League champions within the coming days after both clubs agreed a fee with an announcement of his signing expected shortly afterwards.

The deal represents a key piece of business of Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal’s title defence – while Newcastle will be left to wave goodbye to another key player following the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.

Arsenal will now turn to continuing their pursuit of Guimaraes’ international team-mate Vinicius Jr, although the Gunners believe it is increasingly likely that he stays at Real Madrid, who have significantly upped their new contract offer to get the Brazilian to agree to an extension.

Liverpool, meanwhile, want to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and have also lined up his teammate Ibrahim Mbaye in what could be a double swoop for Andoni Iraola’s side. The European champions may be willing to let them go with Maghnes Akliouche is set to join from Monaco.

Elsewhere, Manchester United want to sign a left-back with Lewis Hall reportedly now set on a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle are determined to stop the exodus and insist he is not for sale.

Vinicius Jr reaches agreement over Real Madrid contract

Vinicius Jr has reached an agreement over a new contract with Real Madrid, according to The Athletic.

The Spanish giants upped their offer to try and keep the Brazilian winger at the Santiago Bernabeu amid strong interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners had grown increasingly sceptical over the likelihood of a blockbuster move and now it appears that Vinicius will pen a new deal in Madrid after being offered a package that “reflects his importance to the club and their project”.

Juventus pursuing Zirkzee

Juventus are said to be interested in Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and hope to bring the forward in on a loan deal.

Zirkzee is down the pecking order under Michael Carrick and could be keen on the move though the right deal will need to be struck for all parties.

Juve have already signed Randal Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic so there is no urgency on their part to get Zirkee’s move done.

Liverpool eye Ibrahim Mbaye but still want Bradley Barcola

Liverpool remain interested in signing Bradley Barcola this summer as the Reds bid to talk Paris Saint-Germain down from their £140m asking price.

But Liverpool could have received a boost by the news that PSG are set to sign Monaco’s France international winger Maghnes Akliouche in a £42.8m deal.

Could PSG already be lining up Barcola’s replacement in the 24-year-old Akliouche?

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s links to Ibrahim Mbaye appeared to suggest a shift away from key target Barcola.

But Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport reports that the Reds would like both PSG wide players.

The two players could cost in excess of £200m combined, with Andoni Iraola looking to upgrade the right wing area after Mohamed Salah’s exit.

Arsenal to complete Bruno Guimaraes deal in next 24 hours?

Yesterday, it was reported by the BBC’s Sami Mokbel that Bruno Guimaraes will become an Arsenal player in the next 48 hours.

Well a day has gone by meaning the next 24 hours should see more movement on that front if Mokbel’s timeline is correct.

The Newcastle midfielder was doing a medical (either yesterday or today) and is set to become a Gunner by the weekend.

That timeline will mean the Brazil international could feature in the Emirates Cup on Sunday against Borussia Dortmund.

Rodri prefers Barcelona to Real Madrid?

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is destined to join Barcelona after deciding to join the Catalan giants over Real Madrid, reports The Athletic.

Rodri could link up with eight of his World Cup winning Spain teammates: Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal.

The decision would come as a bitter blow to Real Madrid, who were linked from much earlier in the summer, while Man City will now search for a replacement.
