Cricket Ireland has confirmed that the upcoming One Day International series with Afghanistan will go ahead.

Five matches will take place across Tyrone and Belfast this summer, after a split decision vote by the board of Irish cricket’s governing body.

The decision to face Afghanistan has been criticised due to women’s sport being banned by the Taliban.

Cricket Ireland CEO Sarah Keane says “discomfort” was expressed at the meeting before the vote.
