It proved to be too contrasting experiences for the Deerpark Killarney team in the National Inter-Club Finals in Lucan in Dublin on Saturday last.
Leaders overall of the 18 teams involved after the opening Scotch Foursomes, the delayed effect of Storm Boleo on the capital put them out in difficult conditions for the Singles in the afternoon where they ended up finishing in 12th place overall. The team looked on the brink of making it to Sunday’s semi-finals and finals day with a combined 11 under par for their Scotch Foursomes as the combination of Michael Cronin & David Harnett shot seven under par with a three under par score from John McGrath & James Foley and a one under par total for Damien Fleming & Colm O’Dowd putting them first by one stroke ahead of the Singles.
They went out into a totally different setting in the afternoon however as the effects of the storm had landed on Lucan as one over par rounds for both Damien Fleming and John McGrath were the best they could manage in losing a total of 30 shots in the Singles and finishing the tournament on +19. Commiserations to the team on being very much the victims of the elements last Saturday.
There is one final competitive weekend this coming Saturday as Pitch & Putt Ireland host a Mens Ranking event in Lakeside in Templemore. Our Best Wishes to all the Kerry players taking part in the event itself.
