The Italian has booked his place in the second round, after a three sets to two win as looks to retain his men’s singles crown.
He had fallen behind on two separate occasions, but won back to back sets to advance.

The opening day has pulled up some shock results elsewhere, with 11th seed Casper Ruud and 12th seed Andrey Rublev both eliminated.
In the women’s draw, Aryna Sabalenka is in action on centre court against Todora Kostovic, while Coco Gauff faces Tamara Korpatsch later on.
Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper have have pulled out of their opening games due to injury.
