
Serena Williams says she “relished” her return to singles tennis, despite defeat to Maya Joint in the first round of Wimbledon last night.
The seven-time champion saved a match point to force a decider last night, but it was the Australian who came out on top on Centre Court.
Williams will play alongside her sister Venus in the first round of the women’s doubles tomorrow.
The first major shock came in the men’s draw yesterday – fourth seed Ben Shelton lost the fifth-set tiebreak to Finnish qualifier Otto Vir-tanen.
First up on Centre Court today, world number one Jannik Sinner plays Portugal’s Nuno Borges for a place in the third round.
In the women’s draw, top seed Aryna Sabalenka faces the American McCartney Kessler on Number 1 Court,
